Appearance: Eriol is born of English and Japanese heritage. He is tall (5’11 or so), with fair skin. His eyes are narrow and rimmed with thick, long lashes. They have a slate color that exudes kindness and wisdom. His long hair is dark purple-black, worn back in a low ponytail. His bangs are even cut across his forehead, just below his eyebrows. He has glasses with large, round lenses and narrow rims. He generally wears subtle, earthy colors and has a penchant for cloaks and trench coats with capelets attatched. He also wears a pair of tawny or dark brown gloves in the winter. He wears a necklace beneath his clothing with a small, strange looking gold key which turns into a full staff with which he works magic. Personality: Eriol, much like his original self, is enigmatic and aloof. He leads a whimsical life, and has for a long time. He’s kind and quite protective of those he cares for. Because of past losses, he keeps more to those who are loyal to him. He’s very wise, and always ready to help, or give advice to those who ask. Eriol is not the sort of man to show sadness or anger, except on extreme occasions. A darker side of Eriol shows as ruthless and calculating. He will go after what he wants with a dangerous singlemindedness. Abilities/Strengths: Eriol is a magic user, and is the most powerful from his universe (thanks to a wish from the witch Yuuko). He has the memories of his original self, and therefore is very intelligent and wise, having accrued hundreds of years of knowledge an experience as his former self. He has replicated the Clow Card set he once created, dubbing them “Rubysun Cards”. They can be summoned without speaking, which can serve as a powerful surprise on an enemy or help with everyday things. Weaknesses: Eriol, because of his aloof personality, seems unapproachable by most people. He’s also a little insecure about losing people close to him, though he doesn’t show it, usually. It manifests in his actions if a person he cares for is in danger. Notable Possessions: Eriol carries a key on a necklace beneath his clothing, which transforms into a full-sized staff. He can use either the Rubysun cards he created, or work magic out of his imagination. | |||

Eriol’s history begins centuries ago, at the time of death of the world’s greatest magician, Clow Reed. Clow split his soul into two parts. One part resided in Eriol, which contained all his memories and magic. Eriol was born in England, and remained as a child using his magic for many years, as he waited for the new mistress of the cards to arrive. When the Clow Cards were released, Eriol created Ruby Moon and Spinel Sun, the counterparts to the original guardians of the Clow, Yue and Keroberos. Eriol met Kaho Mizuki (Sakura’s teacher), while she was studying abroad in England. He gave her the Bell of the Moon, which he’d created alongside the original Clow Cards. Soon after the Final Judgement, when Yue was awakened, Eriol came to Japan as a transfer student in Sakura’s fifth grade class. He befriended her immediately. This put him at odds with Syaoran (his former self’s descendant) as an imaginary love interest vying for Sakura’s affections. Eriol actually had no interest in it, believing Sakura and Yukito would choose each other as their number one. Eriol tested Sakura through carefully created tests. Through each trial, he pushed Sakura to discover the power of her own star. Eventually, she’d transformed all the cards into Sakura cards, except two. Eriol knew it was time. Sakura’s dreams drew her to Tokyo Tower, where the Final Judgment had taken place. Eriol cast a darkness over the city, and everyone without magical powers fell asleep. Yue met in battle with Ruby Moon, Keroberos with Spinel Sun. Sakura transformed the final two cards, Light and Dark, into Sakura cards with the aid of Yue and Keroberos (who she drew into her staff), and Syaoran. Sakura’s father arrived, and with Sakura’s aid, Eriol gave half of his magic to the older man (who held the other half of Clow’s soul). Life went on then normally. Eriol returned to England with Kaho, and continued his schooling there, continuing to grow up naturally once again. Eriol hosted Sakura and her friends a few time over the summers as they progressed through middle and high school, and likewise visited Tomoeda again. During this time, he created a new, nameless set of cards to mimic the Clow Cards, giving Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon something to protect. The summer Eriol graduated high school, an uneasiness settled on him. Having half the magic that he originally did, he could not look in on Sakura as he could previously. Finding that his uneasiness was growing almost unbearable, he took Spinel and Ruby Moon to Tomoeda with him, in time to witness Syaoran’s untimely death at the hand of a magician he’d never before seen. Sakura went into shock and fell helpless to the magician’s unbridled rage. Eriol stepped in the way to protect Sakura, and fought the magician off with his set of cards. Sakura snapped out of her stunned state, and helped Eriol to banish the magician to another dimension. Yue wanted to return to England with Eriol, and he and Sakura split Yukito and Yue, so they no longer had to share the same body. After Syaoran’s funeral in China, Sakura fell into a strange state. She barely ate, barely moved, and never spoke or looked anyone directly in the eyes. After all else failed, Eriol attempted to pull her back to her old self with magic, feeling that she’d magically trapped herself in her own mind. Having half the magic of Sakura, he failed. Spinel and Ruby offered to help. Eriol absorbed them into his staff (as Sakura had done with Yue and Keroberos when changing the final Clow Cards), and with the increased magic, saw a glimpse of Sakura as she had been. However, she forced Eriol’s magic back. This locked Spinel and Ruby into the staff, until Eriol’s magic could surpass Sakura’s once again. Desperate not to lose all those he’d cared for, he brought Sakura, Cerberus and Yue to his home in England. Tomoyo soon transferred to the local University and stayed with them as well. Over the next few weeks, Sakura’s condition deteriorated. She only lay in bed or sat in a chair by the window, and she still refused to talk. She became thinner and weaker. Late in the fall, Eriol was called away to lecture at another college for a few days. He took Keroberos with him. Yue, who remained behind with Sakura, started a spell to turn himself back into the magical power he was created from and do what Clow Reed’s reincarnation couldn’t—bring Sakura back. Sakura roused herself, barely in time to stop Yue from completely disappearing. Keroberos and Eriol returned shortly, panicked. Keroberos had felt Yue’s power as it reverted to it’s original form. Yue recovered with Sakura and Eriol’s aid, and life went on normally for a short amount of time. Sakura began to attend the University with Eriol and Tomoyo. Sakura decided she wanted to stay in England for the rest of the school year, and perhaps the next. She eventually let go of her sadness, bonding instead with Eriol. At Christmas, everyone agreed to go back to Tomoeda to see Sakura’s family and their old friends. Sakura and Eriol used a simple portal to open England into Tomoeda. (They didn’t want to deal with disguising Yue, and Kero refused to sit that still that long. Besides, Tomoyo wanted the excuse to put Sakura in a “magic” outfit.) They opened the portal, and Eriol rather apruptly fell unconscious.
